Appreciate that Lowe's added some public art to the parking area. But somehow it gets lost and not really noticed. The area is a former manufacturing plant space that has been turned into retail of many different box stores etc. together. Still doesn't feel like it belongs there as a complex or as having public art. We will see if better economic times finish what ever vision there was for this area or if it will just turn into a ghost area once again like the manufacturing plant that was once there.

Found this in a recipe pin - turned out well, was not a lot of effort and made it feel good on a weeknight - plus lots of leftovers!!! oh no!!! - see four pictures back.......going in the wrong direction. :-)

My Dad's dog is staying with us for a night. His warm tones with the other colors in the house always make for a good pic. He settled in nicely and was right at home.

Hard to believe this turns into rich black dirt! Adding to the heap with seasonal goodies. We have never gone the route of the bucket etc. and always had good luck. No animals, no smell, rich dirt - just some bugs now and then. It is far enough away from the house that it doesn't matter. This will turn into some great stuff for next year's tomato patch.

What a great Friday night! My girls, both young women now, came home for a night out with their mom. We went to a place called Sips n Strokes. A 3 hour painting class that serves adult beverages. This particular night, they also added karaoke activities to do while paint sections needed to dry.

A random collection of activities that proved to be fun and entertaining. Plus we got these great pics when done. All are the same picture, but a little different. I love each one and could never choose a favorite. Almost like being a mom, you love each of your children so much and not for the same reasons, but never one more than the other, but all of them fully and unconditionally.

Thanks girls, I love you!

Start of the school year and the changing conditions of government in WI has created a busy summer of many details - hence fewer shooting opportunities. I guess I will have to rely on my fall and winter shots to get me back into daily shooting.
The scenery of laptop, desktop, databases, and planning meetings has not provided even remotely interesting subjects or opportunities. Believe me - I was looking for the diversion often!
One thing I did take on was repurposing roman blinds into curtains. Needed to work with what I had and figure out how to hang.

Hoping to find some glass pull knobs to use as finials on the ends of the short rods. This then will transition and connect with the other side of the dinette when we get the glass tile back splash finished. By the time we get all the pieces in place that are in my head - it will be time to start over. But that is what doing it as you can, as you can find things, as you have energy to complete, and as you can afford does. Maybe that is why I like HGTV so much - everything happens in 2-3 days - and to me that is a fantasy! Moving towards a more transitional look and moving out some of the country feel. A cross between modern and vintage - vintage-modern-classic eventually. Each piece inspires a new idea.

Trying to incorporate balance in my life and working on it in July this year. Life is short on earth and worrying and complaining only take up valuable time with no rewards. I believe a steady pace with forward movement will get me farther ahead. So to balance and enjoying, finding the simple pleasures that add up to greatness instead of searching or complaining about the one time kind of thing or the things that go wrong. Time to control destiny rather than be controlled by circumstances.

My husband's family has genes that cover list making. His mom was a ultimate list maker. His dad used them with purpose - but still made lists. His sister makes lists - my kids make lists. A life's story could be written by reading the lists if they were still around.

We always have a notepad and pen/pencil around to make a list.

My Georgia O'Keeffe fix - always able to make during the blooming season. As a student in college, her story as an artist, and her letters to Stiglitz would take me into a world of imagination. She visited our gallery at Alverno College in the late 70's. I had to work and was too foolish not to make other arrangements. One of my regrets - I could have talked with her first hand. Read even more about her after that and studied her work. Planning a trip to her inspiration in Southwest USA to see the colors and shapes. Keeping my fingers crossed that it will come to be this Oct/Nov.

Sedona will be the destination - but will find the other areas as well - looking to getting to New Mexico and seeing what Georgia saw herself. Looking forward to it!

The bowl is so cute! We found it when we were out. Hubby thought of using it right away for ribs - so we had ribs for Mother's day.

Always have like the paintings in this restaurant. While they are commercial paintings - the size, color and textures always draw me in. I would take any of them in my home.
Also look at them as something I would want to try myself.
Trying to get back into the routine of a photo a day. The last couple of months have been hard between work and other things in just having enough time to do anything and still far behind. Spring seems like it might finally be coming- so hope is in place that things will get balanced and not so stressed.

Feeling better again - so trying to get back in the groove of photo shooting and photo viewing. This is Miller Park - home of the Brewer's baseball team. The roof was closed - but the weather was not bad - after snow this week and rain and cold, it was about 58 degrees. The haze is the smoke from the grills of the tailgators - not fog.

#ds489 - In the yard again. Has been a long time because of all the snow. Temps in the 40-50 degree range and sun allowed a walk around. The Sandhill Cranes have arrived again. Still am not able to get too close to get a shot - but this one shows some green almost, the snow gone, the water moving and the crane.......it is going to get better fast now!

In a few weeks we will see the wetlands flood and have a lake out there. Then they recede and the grasses grow - great to watch the plants and wildlife.

The door knobs are installed! Husband did a lot of work in fitting, tweaking, getting it all set. They look great.

Aside from these old knobs and plates not ending up in a landfill, the history I love as much as the craftsmanship. It seems a home is like fashion - sometimes all you need to do is shake up or add accessories to make a difference.

okay - have not got back to exercising after the bout with the flu or whatever this has been - but am getting back to taking a picture each day. Really feel like I didn't step up when photo friends like @gibbonsgolfer gets a picture a day after a major health incident and all through recovery! What I wimp I am. So getting back into the groove and hoping to get back to some quality photos happening once in a while.

Have always looked at these and they were only a buck at the store today - the 5 day size - so got a few. They worked for the challenge today. I like the bubbles in the top and the way this one framed. And now I won't see a drooping plant that is thirsty!

Okay - so it is not a photo a day - but it is still time for taking photos. :-) This sky welcomed me when I walked out after work. Only chance, since when I went in it was dark this morning.
Who would think with this beautiful sky and feeling that the burm is actually there because a gun club range is behind it. Can you hear the pops? That is the difference between a photo and the real thing. :-)

Minus 6 outside, long day and long week - so had to put something together. So many thought this assignment meant black and white. Monochromatic is one color and all of its tints and shades. Did something different last time this assignment came up.

Since this is a repeat, tried to figure out how to do it differently than the last two times. First time was new to the project - just my phone as a pic. 2nd time - more of a set up and finding all things blue. 3rd time - made myself take a pic in public - which I don't do easily. These are the carry baskets at the grocery store. I saw two blue ones in a row.

The blue was much more intense in person. This was also with the point and shoot. I do love the ease of using the P&S, but the quality of the DSLR. I think with some more lens choices, the DSLR may come in to play more often. Guess it means you should have both with you at all times.

We went to the architectural collector's store today looking for door knobs for our double door pantry closet. While our house is not even 10 yrs. old - we tend to like the old things. We added leaded glass buffet doors as transoms at the openings from our main living area to the the other areas of the house. Since the doors all have the lever handles - in shiny brass no less!, I have been wanting to change some out. Counting doors - well that sounded awfully expensive! So I am picking special doors. The pantry closet is near an opening where the leaded glass is and also has tin ceiling tiles hung as art above the doors. So we decided these might be a candidate.

We spent quite a while looking at probably 1000+ door knobs around his space in buckets, on peg boards, in drawers. I found some I liked and some other pieces. Then he tells me he won't sell them unless they are a set and the correct sets! So all that time finding finishes and designs I thought looked good together.

I had to have him tell me which ones went together as he doesn't keep them in sets - all the parts are all over the place. I settled on this one. It is from around 1860-1870.

So - complimentary. You can't get the knob without the plate that is suppose to go with it.

Shiniest thing that was right out in front when I was looking. Love my stainless fridge, but would not have had anything to do with it when the kids were around and growing up. It is a magnet for finger prints and smudges. White textured is the way to go with a family around or if you don't have the time to wipe the handles down everyday!

Haven't been shooting much this last week. Much going on, and just not able to put the creative juices towards the camera. Thinking it is winter and not much change in routine or environment - so not much change to see new things.

Very cold out today! In the ten's. Fabric shots were not turning out well - so into the kitchen. Bought some Avacados on sale - a good sale. Which means it will be a week or more before they are ready for Guacamole.

I used the point and shoot because it has macro settings. Have not been able to use the lens and the DSLR for good close up shots. A challenge this year will be to explore the higher end camera and figure things out. A good goal would be one day a week to spend on it - that might be doable.

I will get a moon shot in 2011!

Many new beginnings in my work - all important and exciting, but those things are going to happen because of the great people I work with and so many that care about kids and education.

So decided to focus on what often gets put aside or ignored in order to do for others - something for me. Not a total new start. Actually started back in the beginning of December, but with an old VHS tape. Found the set on DVD.

My goal is to Sweat to the Oldies 3x per week and use the BoFlex and bike 3x per week. One day off as needed or for some flexibility from a busy work schedule. This last year, it was strength training 3x per week for 20 minutes, which I stuck to give or take a few times here and there.

No halucinations of grandeur - just trying to feel better and maybe keep some aging from happening quicker than it needs too. Richard Simmons is corny, but the music is good, the moves doable and sustainable and get me moving. Not looking to be triathalon - so this works with my joints etc.

Maybe publicly posting will keep it going. So far, 4 weeks in, it feels good. :-)

The boys are figuring out how to be together 24x7. They have always gotten along - but for visits. Sam is younger and all over the place. Jaxin just looks at him and wants him to stop. They are working on it. We are getting used to having a second dog around. It will work.

Thought about this one....

Was it having access to so many information sources? Books? Literature? Art? Travel? Libations? Chocolate? Morning Coffee?

or is it just the joy of the challenge to constantly look at something differently and try and figure out what to do with it?

or finding comfort in being different?

or exploring the paths less travelled......have always went the opposite way of the crowd to see what else can be found.

but mostly the creative fuel comes from family - love and caring. Family also includes friends and those who are part of everyday life for whatever period of time they are with me. Seeing through the eyes of others and listening to their passions fuels the creative process.

Thanks to my family and extended family out there who fuel my inspiration.

Got two houses done for 2010. Have the idea now and hopefully with some time will be able to make some worthy structures.

Adding to my mom's village. It was always something special for us as we were growing up. Nothing fancy or expensive - but put together with love and meant to provide smiles.

One of my favorite ornaments to paint and to hang. Many good memories putting up the tree. Lots of ornaments that my mom made - she is here. Christmas was a favorite time for her - family, giving, celebrating. We will continue the traditions and try to keep up with how she would have wanted us to be.

This is the initial draft of a Putz Glitter House (http://www.bigindoortrains.com/primer/glitterhouses/glitterhouses.htm) Re-creating to add to the collection from my mom for the holidays. A great childhood memory. We are re-purposing the cake boxes we didn't use from our daughter's wedding last year.

Here is the draft with one of the handed down houses as the inspiration. Hoping to have some done soon to add to the holiday display.

Didn't even dawn on my to think "eyes" This is a shot of our Call 2 Action homepage.

The vision is in transforming, not reforming, public education. We have established the institute @ CESA #1 in which to do our work. The vision statement in a nutshell is still being tweaked- but the overall is that public education as a system has to change. Different pathways will take us there, including "personalized learning" for students and adults.

Our website is under construction with a full initial launch around Dec. 10.

This week we are in co-creation workshops with teams from school districts in defining their course of action for the spring semester. Stay tuned.

This is the ground level point of view. I have this view out our window from my chair from the second story. Love to watch the deer, cranes, herons, squirrels and more as they traverse through the meadow and wetlands. Each season brings something new to watch.
